Break in Guitar Strings Without Playing?

There is a new device available that claims to be able to “play in” your guitar strings while you do other things. It goes over the strings and you plug it in and leave it. When you come back your new guitar strings are loosened up. I’m skeptical but who knows?

Good News! Girls like Guitars

In a scientific-type study it has been determined that guys who carry a guitar around have better luck getting phone numbers than guitarless men. And worse news for guys going to or from the gym.

To test whether or not just holding a guitar made a man more attractive to the fairer sex, researchers from the Université de Bretagne-Sud in France chose a “good looking” male subject for a social experiment in picking up chicks. The man approached a total of 300 women on the street, asking for their number each time. For one round of 100, he was carrying nothing, in another round of 100, he was carrying a guitar, and in the third, he was burdened with a gym bag. The results speak for themselves — while the subject scored digits from nine ladies while holding a gym bag and 14 while strolling around empty-handed, approaching women while holding a guitar helped him land 31 out of 100 numbers.

New Book by Doors Drummer John Densmore

Doors drummer John Densmore has released a new book called “The Doors Unhinged: Jim Morrison’s Legacy Goes on Trial” about his time with the legendary Southern Califonia band.
He takes an anti-commercial stance in regards to the band’s legacy.

The 68-year drummer is no stranger to chronicling his former band. He wrote The New York Times best-seller, “Riders on the Storm” in 1991.

The new book defends Morrison’s stand against commercializing the band’s music catalog. Keyboard player Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robbie Krieger considered selling the rights to a Doors song for a television commercial. Densmore wouldn’t go along with it. He won a lawsuit that says his former bandmates must agree unanimously to any use of the Doors name.

Densmore sees himself as the keeper of Morrison’s legacy and feels the singer would never sell the rights to his songs for commercial use.
